A mostly uninhabited four-story, 100-year-old structure near Jack London Square that was badly in need of an update, the exterior and interior have been completely redone in order to provide contemporary interior spaces and a new façade to attract potential office and retail tenants. The badly weathered existing exterior siding has been replaced at the upper floors, a new brick veneer has been added at the first floor, and all of the exterior windows and entry storefronts have been replaced. At the same time, the main lobby and atrium have been refinished and the building’s restrooms have been completely gutted and rebuilt with a new accessible layout and contemporary finishes. The focal point of the building is the exposed elevator shaft, which has been refinished; and the tenant areas have been retrofit with new mechanical ventilation, lighting, and power systems.
